I wore crampons up the chute but nowhere else (not even sure they were needed due to the soft snow and postholing). no crampons from Trail Crest to Whitney peak and not used to come down the chute or back to Whitney portal. Snow shoes might be more useful depending on how conditions change.

Thanks for that information. I'm going up now because when I go up, I start at midnight and usually have some difficulty finding the trail in the rocky area just before Trailside Meadow. This time I want to check for land marks so when I go up again this year, I'll have an easier time finding the trail at night. Thanks again.

Hi Great set of pictures you capture all the conditions AND the Bonus mountain Grouse this is the thing that can scare the be jebbies out of some people. Many are hearing the un... un... un... and think the worst. bear, mountain lion, big foot.... Hey thanks for the set and looks like your group had a fun trip. Doug
