I teach and I just found out that I have a 4 day weekend for Veterans Day this year. Having typically backpacked (overnight)in the summertime, what might I expect for this time of the year? I realize weathers changes minute by minute but I'm just trying to get a feeling for the 2nd week in November. Thanks.

You are into the start of winter and past fall in the Sierra. Most of the color will have been gone, and all of the green things will have turned brown and settled in until May or so.
Cool to cold days. Cold nights (20f). But then again you might have really comfortable temps.
First sticking snow usually seems to be around Thanksgiving, but you could get snow - probably not going to rain. Check the forecast. Not that it will happen, but you really don't want to be up there when they close the road.
More than likely there will be a skim of ice on the lakes at least near the shores in the mornings.
What you won't see will be a lot of people. Might see quite a few deer in the basins.
The top of the passes and Langley would be chilly in the early afternoon and the wind might make you wish you had brought an extra woolly jumper and long johns.

Early to mid-November is different every year in the Southern Sierra. One year we were walking on Lone Pine Lake and snowshoed the last 1/2 mile to reach the lake. Another year, it was reasonable warm all weekend, yet another in the low to mid teens at night and one year a stinking blizzard.
I love this time of year in the Sierra...no crowds and some weather challenges.
