Hi, I'm new to the board. I'm heading up to Whitney with three other ladies for our first hike up to Whitney. I'm so glad I found this site. I've been reading so many blogs and books...and it's so insightful to read everyone's stories and experiences. I don't have to tell any of you the excitement I'm feeling right now. We've all been training for a year..hiking at high elevations this summer...and now, we're ready. Well, ready as we can be. The ladies in my group decided we wanted to hike down off the mountain and head straight into town to celebrate. In that spirit, we made hotel reservations and we will NOT be using our campsite at Whitney Portal Campground. It's all paid for and we want nothing for it. If anyone is interested in using the site please contact me and I'll give you the reservation number and site info. It's available check-in 9/2 check-out 9/4. Lastly, we'll be arriving at Lone Pine Campground this saturday. A friend of mine use to be a Wilderness Ranger up there and recommended a few high elevation hikes at Horseshoe Meadow and Cottonwood Basin. Any other suggestions?? We hike up to Whitney 9/3. Cheers!

You also could cancel your reservation and let us know when you cancel it.

Horseshoe Meadow is a great area for high altitude hikes. You also could try the Meysan Lake trail if you do not want to drive so far.
