I was wondering if there is some method other than the obvious to get the correct results when performing searches on the board/forums?

For example, I was typing in ice axe (with or without parens) or bears as subjects and it returns nothing, which I find hard to believe there is nothing on the topics as a subject in the last year??

You have to change the "Date Range" before you click the Submit button, because with no change, it only looks at the past 1 week.

Change the Week(s) to Year(s), and you will find lots of hits.

I just wish it would list a thread only once, instead of listing each message within the thread where your word occurs.

Yes, that helps a bit, but there are still queries that result in nothing when I search for topics that I would imagine exist. Or, it gives a message reading: "You cannot make another search at this time please try again in a few minutes".

Like I said above, the search utility isn't perfect.

Getting that "retry in a few minutes" is there to protect the server from getting overloaded. The search takes a lot of computer work, so the software only lets you perform a set number of searches in some time span.

ok, fair enough. I thought there was something I was doing wrong. Thanks for the input.
