Hi everyone - I was trying to post a single image, no text, for a new topic and when I tried to do the preview it showed nothing. I tried to post the image using the button, and, using the HTML code posted by reliable, dependable Versatile Fred. Didn't work either way.

I can pull up the image from a browser with no problem so I'm wondering if the preview pane just won't do it.

Thanks and good wishes to all!

right click the online image - copy and paste the "properties" url into the image screen - you may be trying to paste the url sight itself

I tried the above image, and it works just fine.

Can you post the URL of your image? If your image url does not end in .jpg, that could be the problem. I have seen examples from some of the picture hosting sites, where they use a url with parameters at the end, and the message board software seems to reject it.

However, if you set the "Markup" (just below the text box where you enter your message) to either "using HTML" or "using HTML and UBBCode", then you can use the more versatile HTML method of posting the link to the image. The message board software will not check HTML like it does the ubb code in your post.

Thanks guys - I did discover the .jpg problem and I experimented with the Markup choices, to no avail. I think tomcat may have the answer - I'll keep working with it.

By the way, beautiful picture Steve.

That picture is sunset from the summit of Mt. W, taken July several years ago.

Greg, if you want more help, post a link to the picture and we'll help you figure out what to do.

As I indicate in Using the enhanced UBB Editor for the [img] tag:

 Quote:
Note: This tag only works with *.jpg and *.gif image files. Do not use this tag to link to an online photo album page with multiple images. (They are standard HTML web pages with embedded photos). If you cannot extract the address of a specific image, use the [url] tag instead.

Also, if you use the HTML <img> tag, be sure to have HTML turned on for your post before you submit it (you cannot change the mode when you edit it).

I'd like to jump in here and ask for help. I'm trying to post a picture in another thread...no luck. You suggested NOT using Kodak Gallery, but one of the other sites like Flickr...did that...no luck either. I've tried to copy your sunset image into my post...no luck. Really, I didn't think I was this computer illiterate!! Any suggestions? Thanks!

First, click on Versatile Fred's link above titled "Using the enhanced UBB Editor". Scroll down about a page to the picture, and read the instructions there.

To post that picture above, play around with a reply here, and add this to your post:

[img]http://stevec.smugmug.com/photos/10860911-M.jpg[/img]

Then submit your reply, and you should see the picture.

When you want to post your own picture, the hardest part is figuring out what the url of the image is. I posted some hints on doing that in this post here.

ok, I'll try it. When I hit preview, should I be able to see the photo? Or will it not show until I hit post? Thanks again for your help. I WILL get this!
