When editing a message that has the "using UBBCode" option, is there a way to change to the "using HTML" option? Thanks.

(To clarify, I know how to change to the HTML option when I first create the message. It's when I edit the message that I don't know how to make the change.)

Once the message has been initially posted, the "Markup" option cannot be changed when you go back in and edit the message.

I wish we could, since I have wanted to change it myself occasionally once in a while.

The UBB software authors are wary of HTML. Apparently there is a way for hackers to include malicious code in a message, say to direct your browser to switch to another site. But of course we would catch that right away on this board, so I don't see the harm in allowing the use of HTML.

I just used a workaround to change from UBB to UBB and HTML for the case that no one had responded to the original message yet. Here's a simplified version of how it went:

1) Posted original message using UBB (the default).

2) Then I wanted to edit the message to include some HTML. So I started a new message, selected UBB and HTML, copied the old message, and did the editing that required HTML in the new message.

Now the possible problem with this is that someone might have responded to my old message in the meantime. So,

3)I posted the new message before deleting the old message.

4) I checked to see if anyone had posted a reply to my old message and if not, I deleted the old message. If someone had posted a reply to the old message, I would have deleted the new message and kept the old one.

Of course, this has the best chance of working if the "edit" occurs soon after the original message is posted, but at least it's of use in the case when no one has replied to the old message.

I have a back-door way to change the setting on your original posts. So if you really get tangled up in the process, and want to fix an earlier post that already has replies, just email me. You can use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page any time.

And here's an oldie for a guy who's doing a helluva job maintaining the software trails on the WPSMB.
